The National Irrigation Administration XI turned over a Php16Million irrigation project in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte on August 25, 2021.
The Sta. Cruz Small Irrigation Project (SIP) is located in Sitio Sta. Cruz, Brgy. San Jose, in the municipality of Sto. Tomas. Twenty-six farmer-beneficiaries received the project as represented by the San Jose Sitio Sta. Cruz Farmers and Irrigators Association (SAJOSSCIA), Inc. with their President Francis Karl R. Serato.
The newly functional irrigation system will cover a total of 49 hectares, which mostly are devoted to rice that relied on water pumps and rain for irrigation.
The farmers through IA President Francis Karl Serato are thankful for the completion of the project noting how it will uplift their incomes.
Sto. Tomas Municipal Mayor Ernesto Evangelista during the turnover ceremony recalled how the area used to have a strong presence of National People's Army (NPAs) in the earlier years and that he is pleased to see how development is reaching the remote place.
In his turnover speech, Management Consultant Gen Barrientos (Ret) highlighted how development projects such as irrigation infrastructures work hand in hand in achieving and maintaining peace in a community. He also enjoined the farmers to cooperate, and foster unity in the IA; and to utilize the irrigation system granted to them to improve their lives.
