NIA XI TURNS OVER PHP 8.7 MILLION CARP-FUNDED NEW BOHOL CIP

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) XI, Davao del Norte Irrigation Management Office (IMO) held a turnover ceremony of the New Bohol Communal Irrigation Project (CIP) at Purok 1, Barangay New Bohol, New Corella on February 25, 2021 to New Bohol Irrigator’s Association (NBIA) with 24 farmer members.

The event commenced with the blessing and cutting of ribbons at the dam site followed by the turn over rites, signing of documents and acceptance of the newly built irrigation system.

A Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) funded project with a total cost of Php 8.7 Million, the works include the construction of check structures, canal lining and appurtenant parts to irrigate 28 hectares. During the presentation of the project profile, Davao del Norte IMO Manager Larry C. Franada explained that a little over 10 hectares are already for land development to reach the target service area.

Key barangay, municipal and provincial officials expressed how pleased they were to have finally see the project realized. Now a functional irrigation system, IA President Alex Insular in his acceptance speech was looking forward to reaching more farmers in the downstream communities.

NIA Management Consultant Gen Gerardo Barrientos (Ret) enjoined the IA to make full use of the assistance provided by the government and to maintain the irrigation facilities entrusted to them.

Regional Manager Jimmy L. Apostol acknowledged the collaboration of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and NIA XI, along with the LGUs in the attainment of New Bohol CIP. Addressing to the farmer beneficiaries, he highlighted that they have been given access and tools to improve their socioeconomic status and emphasized their role in contributing to their community’s food sufficiency. He likewise encouraged the farmers to incorporate crop diversification. He assured of the continued assistance from NIA complementing the new roles and responsibilities of the IA.  

Also present in the turnover ceremony were representatives from the Office of Davao del Norte Governor, Office of the First District Board Member, New Bohol Barangay Captain Victor Ligurpa, DAR Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer of New Corella, Mr. Floro Florasil Z. Astillo, a representative from the Office of New Corella Municipal Agriculturist, Commission on Audit (COA) representative Mercedita Atanosa and members of the IA.
