By Lee Ryan Ember G. Datuin - Irrigators Development Officer A - Davao de Oro IMO PR Team - April 12, 2026

Strengthening irrigation development across the province, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) - Davao de Oro Irrigation Management Office (IMO) continues its efforts toward the implementation of proposed Ground Irrigation Pump (GIP) projects for Calendar Year 2026.

As part of the preparatory activities, the Planning and Design Unit, Institutional Development Unit, and Operations and Maintenance Unit conducted a series of field validation activities, site surveys, and agro-economic data gathering in the areas of Anibongan, Maco, Davao de Oro on March 18, 2026, and Matiao, Pantukan, Davao de Oro on April 14, 2026—identified among the locations with limited existing irrigation coverage in the province. These initiatives aim to assess the feasibility, sustainability, and overall effectiveness of the proposed irrigation interventions to better address the needs of local farming communities and improve agricultural productivity.

To further support the implementation process, coordination meetings were also conducted prior to the validation activities with concerned Municipal and Barangay Local Government Units (LGUs), as well as Municipal Agriculture Offices. The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration, addressing local concerns, and ensuring community support for the successful rollout of the projects.

The Ground Irrigation Pump projects are expected to provide additional irrigation support to agricultural areas, contributing to improved water accessibility, increased farm productivity, and enhanced livelihood opportunities for farmers in Davao de Oro.

Through strengthened partnerships, careful planning, and continuous field engagement, NIA Davao de Oro IMO remains committed to delivering responsive and sustainable irrigation services in support of agricultural development and food security in the province.
