NIA XI Validates the Proposed Mayo River-Mati Irrigation Project

NIA Regional Office and Davao Oriental Irrigation Management Office (IMO) has taken a significant step in supporting local farmers by validating the feasibility of the proposed Mayo River-Mati Irrigation Project. The project aims to irrigate 2,200 hectares of land in Barangays Mayo, Don Enrique Lopez, and Don Salvador, City of Mati, Davao Oriental.

The group is on the way to one of the proposed dam sites (first picture) which is located in Barangay Don Enrique Lopez, Mati City.

The project validation, conducted from May 28-29, 2024 in Mati, Davao Oriental, aimed to assess the proposed dam site and service area, as well as plan the type of irrigation system to be implemented. The exit conference, held on May 30, 2024, at the MTC Regional Office, Davao City, brought together experts from the Central Office, Regional Office Planning and Design Section led by Engr. Ryan G. Pichon, and the Davao Oriental IMO representatives led by Engineering and O&M Head Engr. Elmer Joseph S. Coronel.

The project is currently in the pre-feasibility study phase. The exit conference is expected to yield actionable recommendations to ensure the successful implementation of the project, ultimately benefiting the local farming community. With this initiative, NIA remains committed to providing sustainable and dependable irrigation water to local farmers, supporting the agricultural sector, and contributing to the region's economic growth.
